21 September, 10 November and 14 January are dates to remember! A series of three amazing concerts by the Janáček Philharmonic Ostrava!

On these dates we offer you musical feasts that no music lover should forget. These are unique events in the history of our town and the entire Podbeskidzie region, not only because of the excellent L. Janáček Czech Philharmonic Orchestra from Ostrava, known to the most important conductors in the world, which we will welcome on our stage, but also because of the programme offered by the performers.

We will hear musical works that will delight all those who are even slightly fond of classical music, but there will also be an opportunity for those who have not yet had the chance to hear the most outstanding works of 19th and 20th century composers live and to experience the musical emotions they evoke. This will be further enhanced by outstanding soloists such as the Korean pianist Kim Won, who has been invited by one of the major record labels, Sony, to work with him on a permanent basis, and the cellist of German-Canadian origin, Johannes Moser, who has been hailed by the German music magazine Gramophone Magazine as "one of the most talented young cello virtuosos". And finally, at the last of the concerts, listen to great Czech opera singers - opera diva Kateřina Kněžíková - soprano, in the title role of Julietta, Richard Samek - tenor, as Michel and Jiří Hájek - bass-baritone in the role of Memory-Seller in opera arias from the lyrical opera Julietta by Czech composer Bohuslav Martinu. The concerts will be conducted by Andreas Ottensammer, the English conductor Alpesh Chaunen and the Principal Conductor and Music Director of the Philharmonic Orchestra Vassily Sinaisky, whom we will host.

These outstanding soloists and conductors could be incentive enough to go to the announced concerts. But an added bonus is the programme. We will hear works that have been performed on the stages of the world's finest concert halls for decades, delighting music lovers with their outstanding artistry and beauty. Performed by an excellent orchestra led by great conductors and famous soloists in the acoustically perfect Cavatina Hall, they will offer us a true musical feast, comparable to a first-class meal in a Michelin-starred restaurant, with exquisite dishes prepared by the world's best musical "chefs". It is a sin not to 'eat' the musical dishes served at the Cavatina Hall.

What you will find on the 'musical menu':

21.09.2023 | 19:00 - The first course is called "Beethoven's Seventh", and in it we find Johannes Brahms's Academic Overture, op. 80, composed in 1880 to celebrate the award of an honorary doctorate from the University of Wroclaw. The Piano Concerto No. 2 in A major, the first drafts of which were written between 1830 and 1840, and finally Ludwig van Beethoven's Symphony No. 7 in A major, Op. 92, which Richard Wagner, an admirer of Beethoven, called the most danceable symphony in the world. -> BUY A TICKET

10.11.2023 | 19:00 - The second concert is called 'Moser plays Shostakovich'. This feast begins with Felix Mendelssohn's Concerto Overture 'Hebrides' op. 26 from 1830, which the composer wrote inspired by his memories of a stay in Scotland and is a musical description of a cave called Fingal's Grotto on the island of Staffa, part of the Hebridean archipelago off the Scottish coast. Then there is Dmitri Shostakovich and his Cello Concerto No.1 in E flat major, Op.102, written in four days for his dear friend Mstislav Rostropovich, considered the greatest cellist of all time. And a jewel of Russian symphonic music - Pyotr Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 2, a masterpiece of craftsmanship that combines the achievements of Western compositional technique with Russian national elements. -> BUY A TICKET

14.01.2024 | 18:00 - The last musical meal - works by Czech composers - is called "Symphony of the New World". The concert will begin with the overture to Bedřich Smetana's most famous opera, "The Sold Bride", which Czechs revere as much as we do Stanislav Moniuszko, as Smetana was the creator of Czech national opera. We will also hear arias from the opera "Juliet" by Bohuslav Martinu, whose works are now particularly appreciated in Western Europe and the USA. And finally, the crème de la crème of these concerts - Antonín Dvořák's famous Symphony No. 9 in E minor, Op. 95, 'From the New World', in which the composer reveals his memory by depicting with sound the vast prairies and melodies he encountered during his stay in the USA. -> BUY A TICKET
