On 11 November, Poland’s National Independence Day, the Cavatina Philharmonic Orchestra invites audiences to a special concert at the state-of-the-art Cavatina Hall in Bielsko-Biała.
The evening’s programme features three powerful works of Polish symphonic music: the deeply reflective Chorale Prelude and the expressive Piano Concerto by Wojciech Kilar, followed by the monumental Symphony No. 7 “Resurrection” by Mieczysław Karłowicz—a piece carrying a symbolic message of spiritual and national renewal.
The orchestra will be led by Michał Nesterowicz, one of the most distinguished Polish conductors, widely acclaimed by musicians, critics and audiences alike. He has collaborated with world-renowned ensembles such as the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, BBC Symphony Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Konzerthausorchester Berlin and Tonkunstler Orchestra in Vienna. A laureate of the Cadaqués Orchestra European Conducting Competition and prizewinner of the Grzegorz Fitelberg International Conducting Competition in Katowice, he has conducted the Münchner Philharmoniker, Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich, Singapore Symphony Orchestra, Kyoto Symphony Orchestra, and many others across Europe, Asia, and the Americas. He served as Artistic Director of the Orquesta Sinfónica de Chile and the Baltic Philharmonic, and is currently the Principal Guest Conductor of the Arthur Rubinstein Philharmonic in Łódź.
The soloist in Kilar’s Piano Concerto will be the acclaimed pianist Beata Bilińska—a multiple international prizewinner, professor at the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice, and an artist with an impressive discography. Her interpretation of Kilar’s Piano Concerto No. 2, recorded on CD, received the prestigious Fryderyk Award, and she was the first pianist to perform this work in concert. Bilińska has appeared at major festivals worldwide, debuted at Carnegie Hall in New York, and has performed with many outstanding conductors and ensembles.
This concert promises not only an encounter with great music, but also a moving reflection on Polish history, identity, and the enduring power of culture.
