About Krzysztof Komeda

An icon whose legacy has been spoken of extensively: a doctor, jazzman, composer, pianist, and visionary.

It’s hard to imagine today’s horizon of Polish jazz and film music without someone so lyrically expressive and courageously exploratory as Komeda.

His time was brief – very brief – yet his mark is so powerful and touching that he became a singular point of reference for generations of musicians beyond just jazz. His compositions, famous worldwide, have attained the status of true classics, performed in countless surprising ways.

Komeda’s legacy will live forever because his work carries an inexhaustible source of inspiration, drawn from by musicians far and wide.

The Challenge of Playing Komeda

For musicians, performing Komeda’s music is a significant emotional and artistic challenge. Each attempt is accompanied by the desire to honor the Master’s legacy while bringing a unique, personal interpretation. Only then can truly exceptional, timeless works be born — even if they all start from notes already written.

The Artists:

Wojtek Mazolewski Quintet
One of the most charismatic groups on the European jazz scene, masterfully blending the best traditions of Polish jazz with the mystical aura of spiritual jazz. Their live performances are an extraordinary experience full of energy and intensity that deeply resonates with audiences. The Quintet will perform their iconic 2019 album When Angels Fall in its entirety — a compelling collection of original, captivating arrangements of Komeda’s works.

Jazzmotional wrote about the album:
When Angels Fall carries much of Komeda’s immortality, but even more of Mazolewski and the Quintet’s pulse and emotion. They chose the hardest path to the source, one no one had walked before, forging it from scratch. Risky, but the way to reach the summit on one’s own terms. Music history remembers such moments.”

Maciej Tubis
One of Poland’s finest pianists, leader of the Tubis Trio, also performing solo. Passionate about the piano, an unrelenting seeker and innovator of sound combining classical and modern elements. Maciej will perform his critically acclaimed album Komeda: Reflections, which spectacularly blends Komeda’s lyricism with intriguing electronic soundscapes. The result? A thrilling, unexpected Komeda.

Jazzmotional review says:
“This album is full of secret charm and compelling force. Inspired yet inspiring… with much new sensitivity without which these pieces wouldn’t sound so enchanting. I dare say Krzysztof Komeda himself would have liked it… Otherwise, Maciej Tubis’s concerts with Komeda’s repertoire wouldn’t be such spiritual and extraordinary experiences.”

Oleś Brothers & Bartosz Pieszka
Komeda Ahead brings traditional, minimalist jazz together with contemporary music, creating an immersive spectacle. Recorded by brothers Bartłomiej and Marcin Oleś with Christopher Dell in 2013, this album proves that Komeda’s music can be interpreted in many ways, revealing unexpected and intriguing facets.

Jazzmotional writes:
Komeda Ahead resonates with true Komeda-like longing, contemplation, and mystery. It is contemplative music creating a cinematic atmosphere where each listener imagines their own story. Listening is like looking into a kaleidoscope of imagination, where images change one after another but none repeat. This album superbly reveals the vast narrative power of Komeda’s music.”

This extraordinary concert series invites you to rediscover Krzysztof Komeda’s genius through fresh, boundary-pushing performances, culminating in a cinematic tribute to one of Poland’s greatest artistic figures.

Immortal Onion

The success of previous editions proved that combining jazz, the picturesque views of the Beskid Mountains, and the vibrant energy of nighttime events is a recipe for an extraordinary experience.

Immortal Onion, a band that has been gaining recognition both in Poland and internationally for years, returns with their latest album titled “Technaturalism.”

The group has firmly established itself as one of the most intriguing acts of the new wave of Polish jazz. Their international reach and unique sound are confirmed by performances in 25 countries across Europe and Asia, making them a standout name on today’s music scene.

Ignacy – rooftop concert

His music is defined by great artistic sensitivity and lyrics that capture the doubts and longings of his generation. His track “Czekam na znak” quickly went double platinum and was nominated for the 2023 Fryderyk Award.

On September 6, he will perform on the rooftop of Cavatina Hall!

In the fall of 2023, his debut album “Central Park” was released, earning him a nomination for the 2024 Fryderyk Award in two categories: Pop Album of the Year and Phonographic Debut of the Year. The album has been certified gold.

IGNACY’s latest album “Limbo” is a musical journey inspired by a state of suspension — being detached from reality and transported to a place where inexplicable things happen. Limbo is a space on the border between dreams and wakefulness, where the listener floats in a world of mystery and surrealism. IGNACY guides us through a bright, beautiful, yet dark “non-place” — a point between dimensions that both fascinates and unsettles.

IGNACY is unafraid of artistic challenges and continues to pursue his musical growth with determination.

Hania Derej – concert on the rooftop

She has written over 130 compositions recorded on 9 albums, including at Polish Radio Katowice. Hania performs across Europe in various ensembles, from solo to jazz quintet and orchestra, and her music spans jazz, chamber, film, and electronic genres. She has received numerous awards, including the FAMA Festival Grand Prize (2024), Jazz Talents Award (Zakopane 2025), and Young Composer of the Year (2023). Her quintet’s album Evacuation (ZenneZ Records) reached 142 countries and global playlists, while she continues to participate in international projects, showcases, and artistic residencies across Europe.
