Archiwa Jazz/Blues/Soul - Cavatina Hall

Chris Botti

Chris Botti is coming back to Poland! Following the success of last year’s tour, one of the world’s most popular instrumentalists announces five autumn concerts across Poland!

A Grammy winner, top jazz chart artist, and recipient of numerous gold, platinum, and diamond records, Botti has performed alongside musical legends and with symphony orchestras on many prestigious stages.

In October 2025, the artist will perform in the most beautiful concert halls of Katowice, Bielsko-Biała, Poznań, Wrocław, and Warsaw. During these five concerts in Poland, fans will hear, among others, tracks from his first album in over a decade, “Vol. 1.”

For nearly three decades, the American trumpeter has collaborated with the biggest stars: Frank Sinatra, Aretha Franklin, Sting, Barbra Streisand, Lady Gaga, Tony Bennett, Steven Tyler, Andrea Bocelli, and Herbie Hancock. Botti has performed in Poland many times, including during important historical events for the country — for example, in a special show inaugurating Poland’s presidency of the European Union, and he also played the hejnał (traditional bugle call) from the tower of St. Mary’s Church in Kraków. Moreover, the artist has often emphasized that, besides Miles Davis, Tomasz Stańko has been a huge inspiration for him.

Chris Botti has released eight solo albums. His autumn 2023 album Vol. 1 (Blue Note Records) marks, in many ways, a new beginning for the trumpeter. “I turned 60 in 2022, a time that felt like a reset for so many things in the world,” says Botti. “I wanted to strip away all the orchestral arrangements and special guests to focus more on my playing, my band’s playing, and those jazz classics we always love to perform on stage,” the artist adds.

The album was produced by legendary David Foster, a 16-time Grammy Award winner whose impressive list of achievements includes collaborations with musicians from the iconic band The Beatles, Michael Jackson, Diana Krall, Madonna, Herbie Hancock, Aretha Franklin, and Dolly Parton.

The concerts are organized by the Poznań-based concert agency Good Taste Production. Event regulations: www.goodtaste.pl/regulamin.

About Krzysztof Komeda

An icon whose legacy has been spoken of extensively: a doctor, jazzman, composer, pianist, and visionary.

It’s hard to imagine today’s horizon of Polish jazz and film music without someone so lyrically expressive and courageously exploratory as Komeda.

His time was brief – very brief – yet his mark is so powerful and touching that he became a singular point of reference for generations of musicians beyond just jazz. His compositions, famous worldwide, have attained the status of true classics, performed in countless surprising ways.

Komeda’s legacy will live forever because his work carries an inexhaustible source of inspiration, drawn from by musicians far and wide.

The Challenge of Playing Komeda

For musicians, performing Komeda’s music is a significant emotional and artistic challenge. Each attempt is accompanied by the desire to honor the Master’s legacy while bringing a unique, personal interpretation. Only then can truly exceptional, timeless works be born — even if they all start from notes already written.

The Artists:

Wojtek Mazolewski Quintet
One of the most charismatic groups on the European jazz scene, masterfully blending the best traditions of Polish jazz with the mystical aura of spiritual jazz. Their live performances are an extraordinary experience full of energy and intensity that deeply resonates with audiences. The Quintet will perform their iconic 2019 album When Angels Fall in its entirety — a compelling collection of original, captivating arrangements of Komeda’s works.

Jazzmotional wrote about the album:
When Angels Fall carries much of Komeda’s immortality, but even more of Mazolewski and the Quintet’s pulse and emotion. They chose the hardest path to the source, one no one had walked before, forging it from scratch. Risky, but the way to reach the summit on one’s own terms. Music history remembers such moments.”

Maciej Tubis
One of Poland’s finest pianists, leader of the Tubis Trio, also performing solo. Passionate about the piano, an unrelenting seeker and innovator of sound combining classical and modern elements. Maciej will perform his critically acclaimed album Komeda: Reflections, which spectacularly blends Komeda’s lyricism with intriguing electronic soundscapes. The result? A thrilling, unexpected Komeda.

Jazzmotional review says:
“This album is full of secret charm and compelling force. Inspired yet inspiring… with much new sensitivity without which these pieces wouldn’t sound so enchanting. I dare say Krzysztof Komeda himself would have liked it… Otherwise, Maciej Tubis’s concerts with Komeda’s repertoire wouldn’t be such spiritual and extraordinary experiences.”

Oleś Brothers & Bartosz Pieszka
Komeda Ahead brings traditional, minimalist jazz together with contemporary music, creating an immersive spectacle. Recorded by brothers Bartłomiej and Marcin Oleś with Christopher Dell in 2013, this album proves that Komeda’s music can be interpreted in many ways, revealing unexpected and intriguing facets.

Jazzmotional writes:
Komeda Ahead resonates with true Komeda-like longing, contemplation, and mystery. It is contemplative music creating a cinematic atmosphere where each listener imagines their own story. Listening is like looking into a kaleidoscope of imagination, where images change one after another but none repeat. This album superbly reveals the vast narrative power of Komeda’s music.”

This extraordinary concert series invites you to rediscover Krzysztof Komeda’s genius through fresh, boundary-pushing performances, culminating in a cinematic tribute to one of Poland’s greatest artistic figures.

Marcus Miller

This fall, the renowned artist, considered one of the greatest bassists and multi-instrumentalists of our time, will perform an exclusive concert as part of the Jazz Icons series at Cavatina Hall in Bielsko-Biała.

Marcus Miller is an artist who has inspired and amazed audiences around the world for decades. His music blends elements of jazz, soul, funk, and film scores, creating a unique and emotionally rich sound. Over the years, he has collaborated with legends such as Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, and Aretha Franklin. His live performances are energetic, captivating spectacles that both move and mesmerize listeners.

The sounds Miller draws from his bass have the power to take the audience on a journey through a wide range of moods – from deep contemplation to pure euphoria. With his virtuosity, distinctive style, and unmatched groove, every concert is a one-of-a-kind experience that leaves a lasting impression.

Marcus Miller’s appearances in Poland are rare, making this October concert a truly special opportunity to witness a world-class artist live on stage.

Immortal Onion

The success of previous editions proved that combining jazz, the picturesque views of the Beskid Mountains, and the vibrant energy of nighttime events is a recipe for an extraordinary experience.

Immortal Onion, a band that has been gaining recognition both in Poland and internationally for years, returns with their latest album titled “Technaturalism.”

The group has firmly established itself as one of the most intriguing acts of the new wave of Polish jazz. Their international reach and unique sound are confirmed by performances in 25 countries across Europe and Asia, making them a standout name on today’s music scene.

Ignacy – rooftop concert

On September 6, he will perform on the rooftop of Cavatina Hall!

In the fall of 2023, his debut album “Central Park” was released, earning him a nomination for the 2024 Fryderyk Award in two categories: Pop Album of the Year and Phonographic Debut of the Year. The album has been certified gold.

IGNACY’s latest album “Limbo” is a musical journey inspired by a state of suspension — being detached from reality and transported to a place where inexplicable things happen. Limbo is a space on the border between dreams and wakefulness, where the listener floats in a world of mystery and surrealism. IGNACY guides us through a bright, beautiful, yet dark “non-place” — a point between dimensions that both fascinates and unsettles.

IGNACY is unafraid of artistic challenges and continues to pursue his musical growth with determination.

Hania Derej – concert on the rooftop

She has written over 130 compositions recorded on 9 albums, including at Polish Radio Katowice. Hania performs across Europe in various ensembles, from solo to jazz quintet and orchestra, and her music spans jazz, chamber, film, and electronic genres. She has received numerous awards, including the FAMA Festival Grand Prize (2024), Jazz Talents Award (Zakopane 2025), and Young Composer of the Year (2023). Her quintet’s album Evacuation (ZenneZ Records) reached 142 countries and global playlists, while she continues to participate in international projects, showcases, and artistic residencies across Europe.

HERBIE HANCOCK ORLEN JAZZ FESTIVAL 27. BIELSKA ZADYMKA JAZZOWA

ORLEN Jazz Festival 27. Bielska Zadymka Jazzowa invites you to a meeting with a legend! On June 27 at 8:00 PM in the Cavatina Hall concert hall, he will perform with his band HERBIE HANCOCK. This one and only concert in Poland will start the European 2025 TOUR, which will lead through Paris, Hamburg, Gent, Stuttgart, Munich, Essen, Rotterdam, Perugia, Rome, Udine, Bergamo, Antibes, Naples, London, Marciac, Madrid and Copenhagen. The master of piano and keyboard instruments will be accompanied by a band of stars: Terence Blanchard – trumpet, James Genus – bass guitar, Lionel Loueke – guitar, Jaylen Petinaud – drums.

Herbie Hancock is an icon of contemporary art, an outstanding creator known for his contribution to the development of jazz, R&B and electronic music. Creative power, courage in crossing genres and unique style, according to “The Washington Post” have established his status as “the greatest living artist of today”. In the 60s a member of Miles Davis’s Great Quintet, in the following decade the leader of The Headhunters, a pillar of V.S.O.P., leader of his own bands in various configurations, author of countless albums that have entered the canon of contemporary jazz.

He has won fourteen Grammy Awards and an Oscar for his music for the 1986 film “Round Midnight”. Many of his compositions have become standards, including “Watermelon Man”, “Cantaloupe Island”, “Maiden Voyage”, “Eye of the Hurricane”, “Dolphin Dance” and “Chameleon”. In addition to his career as an active musician, he is active as a teacher, serves as chairman of the Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz and holds the title of UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador (he is the initiator and artistic director of International Jazz Day).

Niechęć – concert on the rooftop

Their 4th studio album, titled “Reckless Things”, is now available. The album was released on streaming platforms as well as on double vinyl and CD. In the week leading up to the premiere, two final singles were revealed: the diabolical, trance-inspired “Noumen” and its complete opposite, the melancholic “End Credits.”

“Reckless Things” marks a new chapter in the band’s history. The lineup was strengthened by the flawless groove of Dominik “Dodos” Mokrzewski, known from dozens of Warsaw ensembles spanning from free jazz to poetic folk. However, the real game-changer turned out to be Alex Clov. Raised in Chicago, he began his saxophone journey at jam sessions attended and organized by artists such as Jaimie Branch, Ken Vandermark, and Ben La Mar Gay. Educated at the prestigious Royal Danish Conservatory (RMC) in Copenhagen, he studied not only saxophone but also the nuances of contemporary electronic music production. Both musicians are for Niechęć like the title track “New Lungs” — bringing enthusiasm, friendship, and a wealth of fresh inspiration. That very track inaugurated work on the new album and set the course for further explorations, centered primarily around a fascination with rhythm. This time, Niechęć was inspired by various forms of trance electronic music — from IDM through techno to the entire UK bass scene. Alongside the typical jazz instrumentation, laptops and synthesizers were added.

Niechęć’s music continuously evolves with its lineup. Still balancing fury and melancholy, they have shifted towards trance rhythms and synthesizer sounds (without losing their improvisational and cinematic character). The group has performed over 350 concerts, including festivals in Poland (such as Open’er Festival, Tauron Nowa Muzyka) and abroad (including Colours of Ostrava, Copenhagen Jazz Festival, Polish Jazz London Series). All three previous albums have received very enthusiastic reviews in the media and ranked high in year-end lists, also among the international community on the Rate Your Music portal.

The album was co-financed with funds from ZAW STOART.

Band members:

  • Dominik “Dodos” Mokrzewski – drums
  • Maciej Szczepański – bass guitar, synthesizer
  • Michał Załęski – keyboards (piano, synthesizers)
