An evening of musical contrasts and harmonies — from the elegance of Classicism, through Romantic lyricism, to the fiery spirit of Hungarian folk-inspired dance.
“Mozart and More: Dialogues for Strings and Winds” brings together outstanding chamber musicians and a rich, varied program centered around the works of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
The concert opens with the charming and light-hearted Divertimento in B-flat major, K. 439b, performed by a wind trio. It is followed by the deeply expressive “Méditation” from Thaïs by Jules Massenet, arranged for string quartet. The centerpiece of the evening is Mozart’s sublime Clarinet Quintet in A major, K. 581 — a chamber music masterpiece where the clarinet weaves beautifully through the delicate textures of the string ensemble.
As a delightful encore, the musicians will perform Hungarian Dance No. 5 by Johannes Brahms — a vibrant and energetic piece presented in a fresh arrangement for strings (and clarinet).
